  • Admission Requirement

  • Undergraduate Admission

For undergraduate applicants, the minimum admission requirements depend on the applicant's type of secondary education program and certificate. In all cases, for non-vocational certificates, only subjects classified as academic by AUS are accepted for admission consideration and the calculation of averages. Admission to the university is competitive, and the actual required minimum average for admission consideration and to guarantee a seat will depend on:

    • secondary education certificate or school average
    • SAT scores (as applicable)
    • number of qualified applicants
    • number of available seats

However, the minimum required average for accepting an application is the equivalent of 80 percent or more in the final year (national exams only) of secondary education, or 80 percent or more in the best two out of the last three years. Other program-specific requirements or restrictions may also apply.

Additionally, all students must also sit for the TOEFL exam. The passing score for TOEFL ITP is 530; for the Internet-based TOEFL (iBT), it is 71. Applicants must obtain the required score in order to be admitted to an AUS college/school. Scores are only valid for two calendar years. Students who score below the minimum required TOEFL score but who otherwise meet AUS admission standards may be admitted to the Achievement Academy/Bridge Program at AUS.

    Graduate Admission

To be considered for admission, all graduate applicants must meet general university requirements for graduate admission. Some graduate programs have additional requirements, which are listed on the AUS website.

For full admission to a graduate degree program at AUS an applicant must:

    • hold a four-year bachelor’s degree from an independently accredited university recognized by AUS (applicants with a bachelor’s degree obtained outside the UAE must submit an equivalency of their degree from the UAE Ministry of Higher Education)
    • have attained a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.0 (on a scale of 4.0) or its equivalent, and 3.0 or its equivalent in 300- and 400-level courses in discipline(s) relevant to the graduate program
    • have attained a minimum computer-based TOEFL score of 213 or Internet-based TOEFL score of 80

Furthermore, the TESOL program also requires a TWE (Test of Written English) score of 5.

Other categories of graduate admission may apply. Please see the AUS website for details.

Deadlines for all categories of admission are posted on the AUS website.
